Okay, so this is my first time to blog. I'm starting to school in a few days to get my cosmetology license and thought it would be interesting to keep a diary of sorts of my adventures. It's a given that I'll be one of the oldest students and I'll also be one of very few caucasion students! I think time will pass a lot faster if I try to keep a sense of humor throughout the year.
I attended orientation last week and was pleasantly surprised that there were two other girls of pale color there. There were six of us! I, of course, could be all of their mothers. The instructor was going through the sign in sheet and saying everyone's names, which if funny in itself. She came to one of the girl's name and couldn't quite pronounce it, which is funny because the instructor is the same color as the girl! She started telling a story of being at IHOP and the hostess who seated her had the name Schoolastique on her badge. That would be pronounced School-las-ti-que. I can't make this stuff up! The best part of orientation was when I entered the door to the school and Beauty School Dropout was playing! I instantly thought "I can do this"!
