Four days in and I'm ready for Friday. It's fun and I'm learning a lot, but still ready for the weekend. So, today we had to roll our manikin for a perm and do it in a hour. I did mine in 42 minutes! I was excited about that because if we completed it in the time frame we don't have to do it again!! Yeah. It's a little boring to do over and over again.
Okay, I know you're ready for the funny stories so here we go! Today, Akeem (the he/she), got eyelashes glued on! He said he just feels so much better with his lashes! He also said he's ready for the weekend because he wants to go out to a club. He wants to wear his black leather leggings and tank top with a leather jacket! He doesn't want to wear the pencil skirt he wore last time, it's not comfortable! I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP!!! On a more serious note, he did start asking some very important questions today. He said he wanted to know what it said in the Bible about homosexuals. Hannah and I told him about the scripture references. She's one of the youth ministers at Triumph. We talked about it for a few minutes until the conversation took on a life of itself. Some of the people started giving their thoughts (wrong thoughts) and that's not good. Unbelievers will tend to listen to false teachings because they sound better or easier. We changed the subject but a window has been opened!
I'm learning very quickly that black women rarely have their own hair. They all wear extensions, all the time! They're good ones too. I'm surprised at some of them. I'll say, "that's your hair, right?" It never is. I'm going to have to learn how to do that. They pay a lot of money for that.
I've met a lot of new people at school, Carribean, Celica, Akeem, Kanesha, Tamika. That's all I can think of! I need to write them down.
We'll see what tomorrow holds.

First day of school
So, today was my first day of beauty school. First I would like to say that I am very proud of myself for doing this. The first time I went to the school to get information I wanted to turn around and leave before even going in. I really can't believe I went back for orientation! This morning when I was on my way, I was so nervous. I felt like a little kid on her first day of big school! I know that sounds stupid, but this is a place where I initially felt like I totally did not belong or fit in. When I walked in the door this morning my new friend, Hannah, was sitting there and she seemed genuinally excited to see me. I was instantly put at ease. I think people naturally pair up. There were three of us. It was really a good day. We got to know each other somewhat and had some laughs.
One of my new friends, Akeem, is very interesting. He's a guy but dresses and acts like a girl. He's HILARIOUS! He/She is very confident in his/her abilities. I don't even know what to say about him/her. I'll just have to contemplate on him/her for a while. You'll be hearing about that more I'm sure.
There's always one that you can pick out right away that's going to be the problem. She has an attitude as big as Texas. This girl is about 20 or 21 and already has 4 kids! I can pretty much just sit back and watch the show. It's going to be very interesting over the next few months.
